NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) KHAMBOLI CAMP 2010.



Shree Chanakya Education Society’s Indira College of Commerce and Science, Pune organized seven days NSS Camp (13th December2010 to 19th December,2010) at Khamboli (Tahasil- Mulshi, Dist-Pune). NSS camp is made successful by participation of fifty-five (55) students and four (4) faculty members. NSS campaigner did various social activities listed as follows:


Day First: 13th December, 2010.

NSS camp departed from Indira Universe campus to Khamboli at 2:30pm. Campaigner cleaned and washed the residence at Anganwadi and Zilla Parishad Primary School rooms.. NSS camp was inaugurated same day in the evening at 5:00pm with the hands of honorable Shri. Ganpath Tikone, Deputy-President, Mulshi thasil Nationalist Congress Party, in presence of Shri. Shrad Satav, Sarpanch, Khamboli village. Many villagers grace this occasion and give words for success of this camp

Day Second: 14th December, 2010.

NSS campaigner has morning prayers and organised the group campaigns like group discussions on various subjects, review of book, and opinion on the book. We noted their views on the national service scheme. At evening time Prof. Rambhou Savaljkar, Shankarrao Mohite College, Akluj delivered a lecture on Superstitions in Rural areas. Prof. Rambhou Savaljkar explains myths of science in superstition with live examples. Khamboli villagers, school students are got the benefit of these important events.



Day Third: 15th December, 2010.

After morning prayers and group activites students are gather to clean Kaniphnath temple and Bhairavnath temple. These are old temples without proper care. Temple area covered with full of grasses and small bushes. After breakfast Prof. Chnadrashekhar Pawar from YASHDA, Pune conduct a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme. Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is an approach used by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other agencies involved in international development. The approach aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of rural people in the planning and management of development projects and programmes.

The techniques are divided in the following category-

• Group dynamics, e.g. learning contracts, role reversals, feedback sessions

• Sampling, e.g. transect walks, wealth ranking, social mapping

• Interviewing, e.g. focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, triangulation

• Visualization e.g. venn diagrams, matrix scoring, timelines.

Day Fourth: 16th December, 2010.

The Campaigners are presented the skets, songs and lectures on the total sanitation programme. Through that they are create awareness for the open defecation and health consequences.

Day Fifth: 16th December, 2010.

Students are divided in to groups and assign the responsibility to clean whole. There are three groups from morning working to clean the village roads, bus stop, wash the sewers and fill the road potholes. This work going on late evening. Then students arrange the camp fire to fun and joy during social activities.

In afternoon drawing and rangoli competitions are organsied for the village students. There is great response to these competitions. Four prizes are distributed for each competition.







Day Six: 17th December, 2010.

Indira College of Commerce and Science’s NSS unit had organised camps of Blood Donation, hemoglobin check up, and free distribution of the spectacle with the help of Poona Serological Institute. In which 29 people including NSS campaigners donated blood and more than 100 people checked their hemoglobin. The eighty (80) spectacles are distributed after checking the eye. Also 100 people are get benefitted for checking the eyes.

Dr.(Mrs.) Anjali Kalkar, Vice-Principal visit to the camp and taking lecture on Benefits of Meditation and Yoga. This was great experience to the volunteer to opt with live demonstration.

Day Seven: 18th December, 2010.

The special lecture organised for Khamboli village Self Help Group women. Mrs. Rajashree Chavan, Block Development Officer, Satara Zilla Parishad deliver the lecture on the New Schemes and Policies for SHG. Campaigners are also join the lecture and desire to organize their SHG and also give the guidelines for the formation of SHG.

Day Seven: 19th December, 2010.

Morning students enjoy tracking of mountains with the faculties. All students successfully done climbing and walking on the mountain. Student’s call this rejuvenates them and creates their interest in tracking. In afternoon after heavy breakfast departure from there after cleaning the whole area.

  1. The cardinal principle of the NSS program is that it is organized by the students themselves, and both students and teachers through their combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation building.
